Overnight Cinnamon French Toast: Christmas Morning Made Easy

There’s nothing better than waking up on a holiday to the smell of something warm and cozy baking in the oven—especially when all the work is already done. This Overnight Cinnamon French Toast is rich, buttery, and perfectly spiced, with a golden brown sugar crumb topping that takes it over the top. Prep it the night before, sprinkle on the crumb in the morning, and let the oven do the rest.

Serve it warm with maple syrup, fresh berries, and a cup of coffee, and brunch is officially handled.

And as always, we take pride in our process, our facility, our team, our products, and our mission to give back. We bake integrity into everything we do.

You’ll Need

French Toast

  • 1 loaf challah or brioche

  • 8 eggs

  • 2 cups whole milk

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 Tbsp vanilla

  • 1½ tsp cinnamon

  • Butter, for the pan

Cinnamon Crumb Topping

  • ½ cup flour

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup cold butter, cubed

For Serving

  • Butter

  • Warm maple syrup

  • Fresh berries

Instructions

1. Prepare the French Toast (Night Before)

Generously butter a baking dish. Tear or cut the challah or brioche into large cubes and spread evenly in the pan.

In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Pour the mixture evenly over the bread, gently pressing down so every piece is soaked.

Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight, or for at least 4 hours.

2. Make the Crumb Topping (Night Before)

In a bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the cold butter and cut it in with a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles small pebbles.

Transfer to a resealable bag or container and refrigerate until morning.

3. Bake (Morning Of)

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Remove the casserole from the fridge and sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the top.

Bake:

  • 45 minutes for a softer, bread-pudding texture

  • 60 minutes for a firmer center and crispier top

4. Serve

Scoop into portions and finish with butter, warm maple syrup, and fresh berries.
